ULLAS - Inter-School Fest

ULLAS - our inter-school fest was held for the Seventh year in succession on December 5 and 7, 2009. Seventeen leading schools of Kolkata participated in the two-day fest.

Some events like 'Quest' (quiz), 'Hat-trick' & 'Waste-o-bin' (craft events), 'Rhyme and Rhythm' (English elocution), and 'Geetmala' (antakshri) were held on the 5th after the inauguration ceremony in the School premises. The judges on the first day were Mr. Dwijen Gupta and Ms. Eleena Bank (artists), Mr. Masood Huq and Ms. Piali Ray (theatre artists).

The on-stage events were held on the 7th at Madhusudan Mancha where eminent theatre personality and film actor, Sri Sabyasachi Chakraborty was the Chief Guest, In his address, Sri Chakraborty asked the children to be clear about their goals and to be guided by their teachers when pursuing their talents.

Some of the eminent personalities to judge the talents exhibited by the children on stage were Mr.Saheb Chatterjee, Ms Sunanda Malhotra, Mr. Thiri Passow, Ms Manasi Mukherjee, Ms Antara Chowdhury, Dr. Abhijit Roy and Dr. Pushpita Mukherjee. They had a tough time selecting the winners of the talent presented on stage in the events that followed. "Do-Re-Mi' a competition in western vocal music, enthralled the audience. The songs were rendered with superb synchronization by the children. "UI-Ia-Ia" showcased budding talent in Eastern vocal music. The children sang old-time favourites very melodiously "Bohurupee", a uniquely colourful event, had children lining up in fancy dress, and emoting their roles.

The Champion's Trophy went to South Point School, the winner of many individual events. Being the host school, the team very graciously passed on the Trophy to Mahadevi Birla Girl's School. The First Runner-up Trophy consequently went to the Second Runner-up - Delhi Public School, Megacity.
