Principal’s Address

The Principal addressed the pupils of Class XII (Commerce & Humanities) who failed to reach the required standard in the Half-yearly Examination, 2017-2018. One parent of each pupil was also present at the address which was held in the School Auditorium on November 30, 2017.

Donation

The pupils of Classes I to V donated old clothes, toys, bars of soap, food items like biscuits, cakes, etc. on November 29 & 30, 2017 for gifting to the less privileged children looked after by the Missionaries of Charity. All food items were packed separately. The volunteers of this institution collected all this from school on December 1, 2017. A huge truck, a large van and a small van loaded with gifts were sent off to the institution’s centres at Dumdum, Bongaon and Mariapolly.

Occupational Health & Safety

A session for all members of service staff was held on November 28, 2017 at the School Auditorium informing them about the Health & Safety measures of pupils reference to the CBSE guidelines, POCSO Act 2012, sexual harassment of women at workplace and duties & responsibilities of the service staff in this regard. The session was conducted by the Legal Advisor Sri Sukumar Sarkar and Administrative Officer Sri D. Chatterjee.

A training on First-Aid and Fire Fighting for Emergency Response Team was held on December 02, 2017 at the School premises. Members of the Implementation Team, Internal Audit Team, Laboratory Staff and other special Invitees also attended the session.

The First-Aid Training was internally conducted by the School nurse Smt. Aditi Maity, on the topics covering how to manage wound & fractures, stomach pain, vomiting, fainting and choking etc.

The Fire Fighting training was imparted by the Instructor from M/s. Safeway (Maintenance company for School’s Fire System) and the focus of the training was on how to operate different types of extinguishers, hose reel, hose pipe, details of fire alarm system and ‘Do’s & Don’ts’ related to fire fighting.

Safety Awareness training

Mr. C. Banerjee, Electrical Consultant, conducted Safety Awareness training regarding electrical equipments on December 7 2017 which was attended by Electricians, Liftman and Maintenance Supervisors.

On December 9, 2017 another training related to safety awareness was held in the school library for all members of the Office Staff. The Administrative Officer, Mr Subir Kumar Datta addressed them.

Interaction

The author and creator of the well known series for children – ‘Butterfingers’, Ms Khyrunnisa A, visited South Point School on December 5, 2017. She interacted with the students of Class V Morning and Afternoon in the school auditorium in two different sessions, according to a schedule. The students were accompanied by teachers.

Participation

Parijat Dwary of Class V E (Morning) participated in the North 24 Parganas District Table Tennis Championship (Stage II ranking) held at Dumdum Ujjal Sangha from December 8 to 10, 2017. He became the winner in the Cadet Boys Single’s event (Under 12). Parijat received a trophy, a certificate and cash prize worth Rs.400/-.

Aarshiya Biswas of Class V G (Afternoon) has been doing very well in the field of chess. She had participated in the North 24 Parganas District Chess Championship 2017, organised by Lake Town Progressive Youth Centre in association with North 24 Parganas District Chess Association under the aegis of Bengal Chess Association (BCA). The tournament was held at AIWC building, Block-B, Lake Town, Kolkata on August 19 and 20, 2017. Aarshiya scored 4.5 points out of 8 rounds and was placed 3rd on the merit list in the Under 11 Girls’ Category. She received the Second Runner-up Trophy along with a certificate. She also participated in the 40th West Bengal State Sub Junior (U–15) Chess Championship 2017 organised by Alekhine Chess Club, Gorky Sadan and recognised by Kolkata District Chess Association under the aegis of Bengal Chess Association. In this tournament, Aarshiya played extremely well and scored 5 points out of 8 rounds. She was placed 3rd on the merit list in the Under 10 girls’ Category. She received the Second Runner-up Medal and a certificate.

Teacher Training Programme

Ms Anju Chirimar, Counsellor and Ms Lily Khawas, Special Educator of the school attended a teacher training programme organised by and held at Manochetna Academic & Research Centre, Kolkata. This was an experimental workshop on strategies for teaching children with learning difficulties in reading, writing and Mathematical skills, from December 7 to 9, 2017. The course was conducted by Ms Geetha Raghavan and Ms Jayashree Ravindran of KALVI FOUNDATION, Chennai.

Achievement

Sri Subhankar Mozumdar was honoured with the best teacher award by the Centre for Educational Development (New Delhi) on December 10, 2017 at a conference held in Bhubaneswar. The two-day long conference held on December 09 & 10, 2017 was chaired by Dr. Priyadarshi Nayak and Hrushikesh Senapaty, Director, NCERT was the guest of honour.

Shinjini Ghosh of XII CJ received a sum of Rs.15,000/- from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) towards the scholarship under the National Talent Search Scheme for the academic year 2017-2018.

Workshop

Smt. Debolina Dawn (Special Educator) attended a workshop on ‘strategies for teaching children with learning difficulties’, orgainsed by Manochetna Academic and Research Centre (MARC) from December 07 to 09, 2017 at MARC, Kolkata. The resource persons for the three day long workshop were Smt. Geetha Raghavan and Smt. Jayashree Ravindran of Kalvi Foundation, Chennai.
