Ullas Celebration 24/11/2018

November 24, 2018 was a fun filled day at South Point School as it was the first day of the two-day celebration of Ullas, the annual inter-school festival. About eight hundred children from sixteen premier schools of Kolkata in the age group of 7 – 10 years joined South Point School on this joyous occasion. Dr (Mrs) M. Kohli, Director, South Point School lit the ceremonial lamp and
declared the fest open. Some events like Hat-trick (cap making), Vibgyor (umbrella painting), Spin-a-Yarn (English creative writing), Math-o-Fun (quiz on Mathematics), Foot Loose (dances to Disney movie songs) and Geetotsav (songs on festivals of India) along with the prelims of Kwizwiz (quiz) were held in the school premises. The judges on the first day were Mr Debabrata Hazra, Mr Partha Chatterjee, Mr Debashish Raychaudhuri, Ms Swati Ghosh, Mr Anol Chatterjee, Ms Sampa Kundu, Mr Pintu Das and Mr Pratim Roy, all renowned personalities from different walks of life. Individual prizes for Day 1’s events were given out to the prize winners that day itself.

Social Service Project 21/11/2018

On November 21, 2018 the children of Classes I & II brought potatoes and onions to give towards the social service project ’Reaching Out’. They had been asked to bring a minimum of one potato and one onion each. Each pupil of Class III had been asked to bring one bar of bathing soap to give towards this project. The collection was sent to two NGOs Paripurnata and Antyodoy Anath Ashram.

School Festival 24/11/2018

The Nature Club and the Interact Club of South Point High School hosted the Annual Festival “Udaan & Vrrikshya-2018” on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in the School premises. Dr. (Mrs.) M. Kohli, Manager, South Point High School and the Director, South Point School formally inaugurated the Fest at 9:30 a.m. and addressed the gathering. The theme for this year’s fest was “Rivers”. 10 premier schools of the city participated in the festival including the host school. About fifty underprivileged children under the care of Pratik Sevavratee were invited to attend a magic show. Rakshak Foundation, an NGO, which works with the inmates of Correctional Homes, had set up a stall to sell eco-friendly articles made of jute. Food stalls and Games stalls were additional attractions and drew large crowds. The prize distribution was held in two phases. In the first phase prizes were given out by Mr. K. Damani, Trustee, South Point Education Society, Ms. D. K. Chadda, Principal, South Point School and Ms. R. Sharda, Vice-Principal, South Point School. In the second phase, Ms. Sudarshana Mukherjee, Councillor, Ward No.68, Kolkata Municipal Corporation was invited to give away the medals and certificates to the winning teams. In the overall result declaration, Sushila Birla Girls' School was recognized as the team in the fourth place. The trophies for the top three schools were handed out to St. James' School for the 3 rd position and M.P Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School for securing the second position. The host South Point High School won the first position. However, following the age-old tradition, the host school graciously gave away the champions' award to M.P Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, who was in the second place. Thus, the new standings was St. James' School and Sushila Birla Girl's School securing the positions of First and Second Runners'-up respectively. The prize for Mr. Udaan went to Adrita Das of South Point High School and Shailja Beria of Sushila Birla Girls' School was declared Ms.Udaan. Ritaban Acharyya of South Point High School was awarded the prize for Star of the Fest. All the participants received certificates of participation. Entry to the fest was by invitation only.

Participation 22/11/2018

Bennett University representatives visited the School on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Professor Malavika Kaur, a respected print journalist gave a talk on the “Role of Journalism in Today’s World”. The talk was attended by the Humanities pupils of Classes XI & XII.

Excursion 22/11/2018

23 Entrepreneurship (Commerce) pupils of Class XII went to visit Birla Jute Mills on Thursday, November 22, 2018. This was an educational tour and pupils collected data for their files.

Inter-house Competition 20/11/2018

The Inter-house Poster Making Competition for Classes XI & XII was held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in the school auditorium. The topic for the event was “Guru Nanak’s Birthday & Christmas”. The winners of the event are:-

CBSE National Tennis Championship 19/11/2018

The School team participated in the CBSE National Tennis Championship held at Delhi Public School, Noida from November 16, 2018 to November 21, 2018. The School Girls (U/19) team moved upto Quarter Finals both in the Team and Individual Championship.

Competition 17/11/2018

The School Chess team participated in the Inter-school Chess Championship, organized by Abhinav Bharati High School on Saturday, November 17, 2018. The team won the Champion’s Trophy.

Olympiad 15/11/2018

The National Science Olympiad Examination of The Science Olympiad Foundation was held in the School premises on Thursday, November 15, 2018 for the pupils of Classes VI, VII & VIII. A total number of 690 pupils registered for the examination and 594 pupils were present.

Children’s Day 14/11/2018

On the occasion of Children’s Day, November 14, 2018 chocolates were distributed to all pupils.
