Examination

Answer-scripts of Annual Examination, 2017-2018 were shown to the pupils of Classes VI & VII on March 20, 2018 and to the pupils of Class VIII on March 21, 2018.

Workshop

A refresher workshop for Mindspark was held on March 19, 2018 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm in the AV Room for the teachers teaching Arithmetic in Classes II & III. On the same day, another refresher workshop for Mindspark was held in the AV Room from 1.15 pm to 2.45 pm for the Arithmetic teachers of Class IV.A refresher workshop for Mindspark was held on March 19, 2018 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm in the AV Room for the teachers teaching Arithmetic in Classes II & III. On March 19, 2018 teachers teaching Nursery I to Class I attended a workshop aimed at helping the teachers to guide and counsel the children as well as their parents from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm in the library. The resource persons were Ms Anju Chirimar and Ms Imon Neogi, the school counsellors and Ms Lily Khawas, the special educator of the school.

<;;/An English Language Training workshop on development of writing skills was held in the school auditorium on March 21, 2018 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. The resource person was Ms Sonali Bhattacharyya, a well known educationist. All English teachers, from Transition to Class V, including floating teachers, attended the workshop.

All teachers of the Nursery Department attended the refresher training course arranged for them at the Teachers’ Centre, Loreto House on March 20 & 22, 2018, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. They were provided with transport from school. They received certificates after completion of their training.

Workshop

An in-house workshop on Constructivist Theory of teaching Chemistry was held in the School Auditorium on March 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The workshop was conducted by Sri Partha Pratim Roy, Smt. Arjita Ray Chaudhuri & Smt. Gargi Mukhopadhyay. It was attended by 16 teachers from the Department of Chemistry.

Results

The results for the 20th National Science Olympiad had reached school earlier this year, Certificates of Participation, Certificates of Excellence and Performance Reports for all examinees were given to the children along with their Progress Reports. Students of Class III received these on March 13, 2018 while the students of Classes IV & V received the same on March 20, 2018. Children who have performed very well received medals. The Principal gave away the medals to these children. Gold medals of distinction were received by Souparna Debnath of Class III D (Aft), Akshay Agarwal of Class III F (Morn), Aryan Mitra of Class III G (Morn) and Diptangsu Parbat of Class IV D (Aft). The results for Assessment of Scholastic Skills through Educational Testing (ASSET) in which the students of Class IV appear every year for Mathematics, has been exceptionally good in the 2017-18 session. The Pointers have excelled and their performance is above the National bench mark. In fact, there has been a steady rise in their performance in the last five years.

Competition

In the CAB U/15 Mayor’s Cup Cricket Tournament 2018, South Point High School Cricket Team won all the league matches. It won the match with South City International School by 100 Runs, Vivekananda Mission School by 104 Runs and Mansur Habibulla School by 145 Runs. Abu Raihan Imadul Haque of Class VIII C scored a century (107) against South City International School.

OHSAS

A training in compliance with OHSAS 18001:2007 for the members of teaching staff was held in the School Auditorium on March 23, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The refresher workshop, conducted by Smt. Paramita Basak and Smt. Neelam Banerjee, was attended by about 185 teachers.

A training programme in compliance with OHSAS 18001:2007 for the members of office staff and electricians was held in the Conference Room on March 23, 2018 from 2:30 p.m.to 3:30 p.m. The programme was conducted by Sri D. Chatterjee, Administrative Officer of the School and it was attended by 28 members of staff.

Workshop

An in-house workshop on Integrated Social Science was conducted by Sri Partha Pratim Roy at the School Auditorium on March 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Smt. Sipra Bhattacharya and Smt. Srabana Banerji, coordinated the workshop with the assistance of Smt. Sriparna Chatterjee, Smt. Anushil Banerjee and Smt. Moon Ray. 39 teachers from the departments of History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Legal Studies and Sociology participated in the workshop.

68 language teachers from the departments of English, Bengali & Hindi participated in an in-house workshop held at the School Auditorium on March 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The workshop was conducted by the Principal, Smt. Rupa Sanyal Bhattacharjee and the Teacher Consultants, Smt. Simmi Talwar, Smt. Sulagna Bose, Smt. Madhumita Ghosh, Smt. Soumi Sengupta, Smt. Oindrila De and Sri Sandip Chattopadhyay.

Sri Partha Pratim Roy and Sri Shubhankar Mozumdar, conducted an in-house Physics workshop on March 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Physics Laboratory. 14 teachers of the Physics department attended the workshop.

First-Aid training workshop

A First-Aid training workshop by Indian Red Cross Society for the Emergency Response Team, Transport Staff and the matrons of South Point School, as well as, South Point High School was held on March 16, 2018 at the high school from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm. The trainer was Mr Ranjit Kr Mondal. All members and special invitees attended the training. A school bus was provided in the morning to take the staff members from South Point School to South Point High School.

Workshop

Workshops aimed at helping the teachers to guide and counsel children, as well as, their parents were held in the Library on March 14 & 15, 2018 from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm. Teachers of Classes II & III attended the session on the first day while the teachers of Classes IV & V and the Arithmetic/Mathematics teachers attended the session on the second day. The resource persons were Ms Anju Chirminar and Ms Imon Neogi, the school counsellors and Ms Lily Khawas, the special educator of the school.

OHSAS

Members of the Emergency Response Team and Matrons attended a First-Aid Training Programme by Indian Red Cross Society, West Bengal on March 16, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the School Auditorium.
