Christmas parties for Nursery I to Class I

On December 17 & 18, 2018 Christmas parties were held in the school auditorium for the little ones of Nursery I to Class I. There were four shows each day, two in the Morning and two in the Afternoon. A few children enacted the Nativity Scene. The choir sang carols and little dancers enthralled the audience with lovely movements. The programme was put up by the young Pointers of Nursery I to Class I. The children of these classes were given colourful caps and a box of goodies.

Athletic Meet

The Biennial Athletic Meet of the School was held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Gitanjali Stadium. Smt. R. Sanyal Bhattacharjee, Principal of the School delivered the welcome address. The day took off with the opening song and the school song, presented by the pupils of the School. It was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial torch and the hoisting of the school flag by the Chief Guest Ms. Anjana Sinha, IPS, Director, National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad. The opening ceremony also comprised the March Past and oath taking ceremony. Ms. Sinha in her speech encouraged pupils to live in the world of reality, through sports rather than in the virtual world. Her speech was followed by a Yoga display by pupils of Classes VI – VIII of the Morning Session. A presentation based on aerobics, by the pupils of Classes VI – VIII of the Afternoon Session, was one of the highlights of this segment. Athletes representing six houses participated in 29 track and field events. Some other events like Throwing the Cricket Ball, 50 Mtr. Spoon and Marble Race, 75 Mtr. Skipping Race, Long Jump and Passing the Ball had been held earlier. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar House lifted the Championship trophy while Ashutosh Mukherjee House was adjudged the runner-up. There were races run by members of staff and parents which had the pupils cheering in delight. The closing ceremony began with lowering of the School flag by the Principal, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

Social Activity

09 Cartons, each containing biscuits, clipboards, chips, cakes, tiffin boxes, water bottles, food items, chocolates and other miscellaneous items, donated by the pupils of the School, were handed over to the Mahila Seva Samity, for the different orphanages run by them, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

Participation

About 200 pupils of Class IX attended an hour-long interactive session conducted by PACE (IIT & Medical) on Monday, December 17, 2018 in the School auditorium. Mr. Sangeet Chowdhury, Business Development Manager, and three faculty members from the different fields of Science, conducted the session.

Achievement

Based on their outstanding performance in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination 2018 twelve (12) students of South Point were awarded certificates of merit by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The performance of these students was among the top 0.1% of all successful candidates in the examination.

Based on the performance of South Point pupils in the Junior Talent Search 2018, JBNSTS (Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search) selected South Point High School for a Special Award. A memento and a cheque of Rs.5000/- was given on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Derozio Hall, Presidency University, Kolkata. Nine pupils of Class XI got the Scholarship Award and three pupils received the Encouragement Award.

Nursery I to Class IV

Two Identity Cards are issued to each pupil of Nursery I to Class V to ensure their safety. Pupils are expected to wear one Identity Card to school everyday. If the pupil is escorted by a guardian/representative, the escort must carry the other card to ensure proper identification. Keeping this in mind, guardians are requested to send one 20×20 mm latest coloured photograph of their ward, with his/her ID No. written on the reverse. The photograph must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the class teacher by January 29, 2019 mentioning the name, class, section and session of their ward in block letters on the envelope.
