Inter House competition

The third inter-house competition in the form of a quiz was held on September 26, 2019 in the school auditorium. Mr Ranjan Datta, an eminent quizzard, was the Quiz Master. The results are as follows:–

Competition

Players Registration and Medical Test for the CAB U/15 Mayor’s Cup Cricket Tournament was held at the Eden Gardens on Friday, September 20, 2019. Twenty players were registered from the School.

OHSAS

A Refresher Electrical Training in compliance with OHSAS 18001:2007 for members of Physics, Chemistry, Computer & Composite Labs, Lift Operator and Electricians, was conducted by Sri C. Banerjee, Electrical Consultant of the School on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Conference Room.

Workshop

A one-day Capacity Building Workshop of CBSE on Assessment and Evaluation for Classes IX & X was held at Mahadevi Birla World Academy on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Smt. Jhilimili Das Chakraborty, Smt. Mithu Halder, Smt. Poulomi Mukherjee and Sri Saheb Chatterjee, teachers of the School, participated in the workshop.

Achievements

Tuhin Mondal of Class V E (Aft.) participated in the 7th All Bengal Open Rapid Chess Championship 2019 held at Dhrubatara Chess Academy, Howrah on September 22, 2019. He stood 1st in the Under 11 Boys Category. He received a trophy.

Sayak Biswas of Class III A (Aft.) had participated in the 5th All Bengal Open One Day Rapid Chess Tournament on September 8, 2019 and in Kolkata District Chess Association All Bengal School Chess Tournament held on September 9 & 10, 2019. In both tournaments he secured the 1st position in the Under 9 Boys Category. He received a trophy and a certificate in the 5th All Bengal Open One Day Rapid Chess Tournament and a trophy in the other tournament.

Rangeet Majumdar of Class III G (Aft.) participated in the Pearl City All India Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament, held from September 6 to 11, 2019 at Lakdikapul, Hyderabad. He stood 2nd in the Under 9 Category. Rangeet received a cash prize worth Rs.4000, a trophy and a mobile phone.

Inter-School Festival

On September 19, 2019 some students of Classes IV & V participated in Vibgyor, the Inter-School Festival organised by M. P. Birla Foundation H. S. School. They participated in Yoga, Bengali Elocution, Fashion Designing, Chess and Indian Vocal. South Point School lifted the Championship Trophy in the Festival. Ojaswi Thakur of Class V A (Aft.) and Rhitam Bardhan of Class V B (Morn.) stood first in Bengali Elocution while Subhomita Ghosh of Class V B (Aft.) and Shanza Kafi of Class V B (Aft.) secured the third position in Fashion Designing. Tuhin Mondal of Class V E (Aft.) and Suvayan Dey of Class V G (Aft.) secured the second position in Chess. A group of seven singers received the third prize for Indian Vocal. The singers were Asmita Ganguli of Class V E (Morn.), Somdatta Mukherjee of Class V D (Morn), Meghalina Sanyal Chatterjee of Class V D (Aft.), Shreyansi Chakraborty of Class V D (Aft.), Sridatri Nag of Class V A (Aft.), Srinika Biswas of Class IV E (Aft.) and Prajukta Samaddar of Class IV A (Aft.). All these children received individual trophies and certificates.

International Assessments

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) was conducted by Macmillan Publishers India Ltd., along with Educational Assessment, Australia, a division of University of New South Wales, Australia. This year a total number of 377 pupils from Classes III to V had registered for English, Mathematics, Digital Technologies and Science. The assessments for English and Mathematics were held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 while those for Digital Technologies and Science were held on Monday, September 16, 2019.

South Point High School : Circular For Parents / Guardians Of The Pupils Of Class X

Dear Parents / Guardian,

We would like to inform you the criteria that will be followed to select pupils for admission to Class XI, Academic Session 2020-2021. Please note that due to the limited number of seats, all pupils cannot be admitted to Class XI, especially to the streams of their choice.

Pupils who opt to study under the Science stream will be required to appear for an Admission Test (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) tentatively scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 07, 2019. The timing of the test will be intimated in due course. Besides the Admission Test, their performance in all relevant internal assessments will be given weight, while compiling the final Merit List for admission in Class XI.

Pupils who opt to study under the Commerce and the Humanities streams will be considered for admission on the basis of their performance in the relevant internal assessments only.

Pupils opting for Mathematics as an Elective subject under the Humanities stream are required to appear for an ‘Eligibility – cum – Aptitude Test’ in Mathematics, also scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 07, 2019.

The pupil’s attendance record along with his/her disciplinary record will be considered before granting admission. Also, please be informed that the following subjects are offered in the curriculum of Class XI: English, Bengali, Hindi, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Entrepreneurship, Legal Studies, History, Geography, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The detailed combinations are available on the School website www.southpoint.edu.in. Seats may be limited in numbers for certain subject choices.

Classes will begin in April 2020, though admission granted will be provisional, as pupils selected for admission are compulsorily required to obtain at least 60% in the aggregate in AISSE-2020
