The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of South Point was held on July 4, 2019 at Nazrul Mancha. Janab Firhad Hakim, Hon’ble Mayor, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The evening began with an invocation and the School song sung by the students of South Point High School. Thereafter, Smt Rupa Sanyal Bhattacharjee, Principal, South Point High School addressed the gathering. The Welcome Address, that evening, was delivered by Shri H. V. Lodha, Chairman, M. P. Birla Group and President, South Point Education Society. The Chief Guest, in his address, inspired the students with his motivating words. The prize distribution ceremony included an array of academic prizes of both South Point School and South Point High School. The prestigious Puja Utkarsh Samman awards, as well as, those under the aegis of M. P. Birla Smarak Kosh were given away to deserving candidates. ASPEXS, South Point Ex-Students’ Association, also conferred an award to a meritorious Pointer.
The evening’s cultural programme included two presentations by about 300 students of both the schools. South Point School presented ‘Happy Hues of Childhood’, evocative of that happy phase when life seems to be like a rainbow, vibrant and colourful, deriving sheer joy from fun and games. It was an attempt to drive home to children of modern times, trapped in a world of digital technology that they should enjoy their childhood by playing games and indulging in fun and laughter. South Point High School presented ‘Kolkata’ in which a group of children who had set out on a secret expedition to explore the City of Joy, were left with lasting impressions on their minds and souls.
The evening ended with a vote of thanks by Smt Reena Sharda, Vice Principal, South Point School and with the singing of the National Anthem.
