REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 15.05.2023 TO 18.06.2023 18/06/2023

Participation

During this Summer Vacation, the School organised a Trekking-Cum-Adventure Sports Programme in association with Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling from Sunday, May 14, 2023 to Saturday, May 20, 2023 where 61 students and 06 teachers (total 67 heads) participated. This programme was designed exclusively for South Point High School students & teachers. The moto of this programme was / were to nurture our students to develop various traits of leadership like team spirit & camaraderie, crisis management, lifesaving skills, to develop courage, to develop confidence, punctuality, disciplined and learning on adjustment .The students fulfilled these criteria & successfully completed this course under the leadership of Ngduf Bhutia, the chief Instructor of HMI & the Mt. Everest climber. Total 08 HMI Instructors were involved in this training programme. The students & teachers received certificates & HMI Badges from Group Captain Jai Kisan, the Principal of HMI.

75 Pupils of Classes XI & XII attended a six day Mental Health Awareness Camp organised by the Fortis Group of Hospitals from Monday, May 22, 2023 to Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Heeba Nausheen and Sansthita Ghosh of Class XI A attended a five day Print Media Summer Training Camp, organised by Times of India from Monday, May 29, 2023 to Sunday, June 02, 2023 at Time House, Sector-V, Salt Lake, Kolkata.

Sri Shubhankar Mozumdar and Sri Anirban Datta of the department of Physics attended a two day Capacity Building Programme of CBSE on Physics for the Senior Secondary level, held at Mahadevi Birla World Academy on Wednesday, June 12, 2023 and Thursday, June 13, 2023.

Mr. Partha Pratim Roy attended the state level conference of CBSE at Abhinav Bharati School, Kolkata on Thursday, June 15, 2023. The conference was on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in the context of National Education Policy 2020.

Inter-school Competition

The preliminary round of Satrangi (Inter-school Singing Competition) 2023 was held at the School premises on Tuesday, May 02, 2023 in which 18 teams from premier schools of the city participated. The judges for the event were Shri Suvam Moitra and Smt. Anita Chatterjee. The eight teams which qualified for the finals were Adamas International School, Mahadevi Birla World Academy, M.P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, Patha Bhavan, Shri Shikshayatan School, The Heritage School, Vivekananda Mission School and the host school, South Point High School.

The Preliminary round of “Cerebrate” (Inter-school Debate) 2023 for the M.P. Birla Trophy organised under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point) was held on Wednesday, May 03, 2023 at the School premises. 22 schools participated in the preliminary round out of which six schools were selected for the final round. The motion of the house in the preliminary round was “The Facebook is nothing more than an easy platform for self-exhibition”. The Debate was judged by Shri Debashish Raychaudhuri and Smt. Devanjali Sikdar. The six teams which qualified for the finals were – Birla High School, Delhi Public School (Megacity), Delhi Public School (Ruby Park), Garden High School, Shri Shikshayatan School and the host South Point High School.

Participation

41 pupils of Class XII appeared online in the Sir Issac Newton Examination conducted by the Department of Physics & Astronomy of the University of Waterloo, Canada, on Thursday, May 04, 2023 in the Computer Laboratory of the School.

Representations of different foreign universities in arrangement with Blue Sky Education were present in the School Auditorium on Friday, May 05, 2023 to interact with students of Class XII about admission and scholarship opportunities for higher studies abroad.

Inter-school Competition

The Inter-school Singing Competition, ‘Satrangi’ for the M.P. Birla Trophy organised under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point) was held on Monday, May 08, 2023 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar. Smt. Anurima Mitra was the compère of the programme. The judges were Sri Kalyan Sen Barat and Smt. Subhamita Banerjee. The three rounds were Tarang (chorus), ‘Tarannum’ (solo round) and Tere Sur Mere Geet (Judges’ Choice). Among the 08 finalists, the first prize went to Vivekananda Mission School, while South Point High School won the second prize and Mahadevi Birla World Academy won the third prize. Sreemoyee Acharyya of Mahadevi Birla World Academy was declared the “Best Singer”.

The Inter-school One Act Play competition “Masquerade”, for the M.P. Birla Trophy organised under the aegis of the M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point), was held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar with 10 schools of the city vying for the first place. The esteemed judges were Smt. Kheyali Dastidar, Smt. Sudipa Bose and Sri Arindam Ganguly. The Heritage School was given the Best Performance award while Mahadevi Birla World Academy and South Point High School secured the second and third positions, respectively. The Judges’ Choice award was given to Shri Shikshayatan School and Delhi Public School (Megacity).

The Inter-school Debate, ‘Cerebrate’ for the M.P. Birla Trophy organised under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point) was held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar. The Debate was chaired by Sri Subramanian Venkat Raman and the motion of the debate was “Artificial intelligence is a threat to Human Morality”. Delhi Public School (Ruby Park) secured the first position while South Point High School and Garden High School won jointly the second position. Suchetana Sen of Delhi Public School (Ruby Park) received the Best Speaker Award. The Judges for the event were Sri Pradeep Gooptu and Smt. Swati Gautam.

The Inter-school Quiz Competition ‘Q-Point’ for the M.P. Birla Trophy organised under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point) was held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar. The Quiz Master was Mr. Charanpreet Singh. Eight teams reached the finals from a total of 21 participating schools.  The Heritage School won the first position while Birla High School ranked second and Lakshmipat Singhania Academy ranked third. Ram Daftari of Birla High School was adjudged the Best Quizzer.

Rabindrajayanti

The Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated in a befitting manner on Tuesday, May 09, 2023 in the School Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. A short programme was presented by the pupils of Classes VI to XII named “Mahakash-O-Rabindranath” This was followed by an Investiture Ceremony and the new Student Council for 2023-24 was installed. Badges were given out to Prefects (Classes IX & XI) and to House-Captains and Vice-Captains.

Examination Results of AISSE and AISSCE 2023 were published on Friday, May 12, 2023. The results were made available to the pupils through their digilocker accounts.

Evacuation Drill

An Evacuation Drill was held on Monday, April 24, 2023 for the pupils of Morning & Afternoon Sessions to acquaint them with safety protocols in an emergency situation.

ISO 45001: 2018

An external audit in compliance with ISO 45001:2018 Certification was conducted by British Standards Institution from Tuesday, April 25, 2023 to Thursday, April 27, 2023 to reassess that whether the organisation fulfils the standards and audit criteria. Being satisfied with the process followed by the organisation, it has recommended certification for another three years.

Inter-School Competition

Chessmate – the Inter-school Chess Championship under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh was held on Friday, April 28, 2023 and Saturday, April 29, 2023 in the School Library. The Championship was played in eight rounds under the Federation International De Echess (FIDE) rules in accordance with the Swiss League. 180 students took part in the Championship among which 64 were fide rated players. A total of 45 teams participated in the event. On Saturday, April 29, 2023, prizes were handed over to the winners by Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, who was the Chief Guest at the programme.  The result of the Championship is as follows:-

The Inter-school Open Essay competition “Perceptum” under the aegis of the M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh (South Point) was held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the School premises. A total 158 participants from 27 schools participated in the three broad groups – English, Hindi and Bengali. The participants in English were sub-divided further into two categories: Category-I for Classes IX and X, and Category-II for Classes XI and XII.

ISO 45001:2018

A Refresher Training in compliance with ISO 45001:2018 OHS&MS for members of Teaching Staff (new recruits and some voluntary attendees) was conducted by Dr. Neelam Banerjee on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the School premises.

Examination

Results of Classes IX & XI were declared on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Participation

On the occasion of World Heritage Day on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, about 40 pupils of Class XI accompanied by 03 teachers visited the Alipore Jail Museum.

The School sent Mrs. Tanusmita Banerjee of the Physical Education Department to ATO Gwalior for 45 days to attend the Associate NCC Officer Training Programme held from Monday, March 06, 2023 to Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

Sri Sanjay Chandrakant Nadkar and Smt. Sarita Ghosh, teachers of the department of Commerce attended a two-day Capacity Building Programme on Thursday, April 20, 2023 and Friday, April 21, 2023. The topic of the programme was ‘PRP on Accountancy’.

Inter-house Competition

Inter-house Chess Championship-cum Selection Trial was held on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Heat Wave

Due to the heat wave and in adherence to the Government directive, all classes were suspended from Monday, April 17, 2023 to Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Examination

Answer-scripts of the Annual Examination 2023 were shown to the pupils of Classes IX & XI on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Results of the Annual Examination for Class VIII was declared on Monday, April 10, 2023.

The new session (2023-2024) for Classes VII, VIII & IX began on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Orientation sessions for all sections of Class XI were held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

The new session (2023-2024) for Class XI began on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

Achievement

Three teams of South Point High School comprising pupils from Classes VIII to XI participated in ‘Smart Bengal Hackathon 2023’ hosted and managed by RCC Institute of Technology on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 & Wednesday, April 12, 2023. The Class VIII team (now in Class IX) of South Point High School, the Hackminors, comprising Purbayan Sarkar, Hrishkesh Saha and Sagnik Chakraborty, secured a joint third position in the software development category.

Workshop

An In-house workshop was held for the teachers of the Chemistry department on Monday, April 03, 2023. Teachers actively participated in designing activities for the implementation of the proposals of National Education Policy 2020. Methods of teaching to help students learn from experience, were also demonstrated.

 Two sessions were addressed by our In-house Counsellors on Tuesday, April 04, 2023 sensitizing teachers regarding the behavioural pattern of pupils especially those with learning difficulties.

 An In-house workshop was held for the Computer Science Teachers of the middle school on Wednesday, April 05, 2023. Methodologies for implementing National Education Policy 2020 guidelines on experimental learning were discussed and demonstrated in the workshop.

A Training programme on Emergency Response Preparedness in compliance with ISO 45001:2018 for Emergency Response Team (ERT) members was held on Wednesday, April 05, 2023 from 12:00 noon onwards at the School premises

Results of the Annual Examination for Classes VI & VII were declared on Tuesday, April 04, 2023.

 Principal Address

The Principal addressed all teachers on Tuesday, April 04, 2023 outlining the academic and other issues relating to 2023-2024 session.

Competition

11 (Eleven) cadets from the School took part in the Inter-unit  Annual Training Camp, organised by 1-Bengal (BN) NCC held at Rabindra Sarobar area from 13.03.2023 to 20.03.2023. Amlanjoti Sharmah of Class VIII E (M) and Devansh Chakraborty of Class VIII C (M) represented 1-Bengal (BN) NCC unit in the Inter-unit Debate and Quiz Competitions. Amlanjyoti Sharmah won the 1st prize in the Debate.

On Thursday, February 09, 2023, pupils of Nature Club planted seeds in the School ground which they had received as gift from ‘Pathchala’ an organisation, who deals with underprivileged children.

Admit Card for pupils appearing in AISSE-2023 & AISSCE-2023 was distributed on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Excursion

A Bird Watching Excursion was held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 for the Nature Club and Photography Club members at Rabindra Sarovar with the assistance of Bird Watchers’ Society, Kolkata.

Saraswati Puja

This year Saraswati Puja and Republic Day shared the same date. A brief programme was put up by the pupils at South Point School. The programme began with a Saraswati Vandana set on raag hanswadhwani followed by rendition of a patriotic poem. A folk song was presented by the CCA folk singers’ group as well as a dance to welcome basant or the season of spring.

Vaccination Camp

A Camp in association with the Health Department, Government of West Bengal and Kolkata Municipal Corporation for Measles & Rubella Vaccination for the pupils of Classes VI to IX was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 and Friday, January 27, 2023 at the School premises.

Social Service

Pathchala, a school for underprivileged children gifted seeds to our Interact Club members on Friday, January 27, 2023 as a mark of gratitude for the support provided to them in the form of new clothes during Durga Puja and stationary items during Annual Fest Udaan & Vrrikshya 2022.

Achievement

South Point High School received the ‘Best School Award’ for the year 2022 in the Senior Talent Search Test 2022. The award was presented in the annual award ceremony of Jagadish Bose National science Talent Search on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Derozio Hall, Presidency University, Kolkata.
