Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony 04/07/2019

The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of South Point was held on July 4, 2019 at Nazrul Mancha. Janab Firhad Hakim, Hon’ble Mayor, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The evening began with an invocation and the School song sung by the students of South Point High School. Thereafter, Smt Rupa Sanyal Bhattacharjee, Principal, South Point High School addressed the gathering. The Welcome Address, that evening, was delivered by Shri H. V. Lodha, Chairman, M. P. Birla Group and President, South Point Education Society. The Chief Guest, in his address, inspired the students with his motivating words. The prize distribution ceremony included an array of academic prizes of both South Point School and South Point High School. The prestigious Puja Utkarsh Samman awards, as well as, those under the aegis of M. P. Birla Smarak Kosh were given away to deserving candidates. ASPEXS, South Point Ex-Students’ Association, also conferred an award to a meritorious Pointer.

The evening’s cultural programme included two presentations by about 300 students of both the schools. South Point School presented ‘Happy Hues of Childhood’, evocative of that happy phase when life seems to be like a rainbow, vibrant and colourful, deriving sheer joy from fun and games. It was an attempt to drive home to children of modern times, trapped in a world of digital technology that they should enjoy their childhood by playing games and indulging in fun and laughter. South Point High School presented ‘Kolkata’ in which a group of children who had set out on a secret expedition to explore the City of Joy, were left with lasting impressions on their minds and souls.

The evening ended with a vote of thanks by Smt Reena Sharda, Vice Principal, South Point School and with the singing of the National Anthem.

Subject Prizes 29/06/2019

On June 29, 2019 subject prizes for the session 2018-2019 were given to the winners of Classes II – V (now in Classes III to VI) in the school auditorium. The programme began at 2.45 pm with an invocation and school song sung by the school choir. Mrs D. K. Chadda, Principal, South Point School, addressed the gathering and then gave away the prizes. Guardians of the prize winners and some members of staff attended the ceremony.

Participation 29/06/2019

Smt. Joyeeta Bose and Smt. Moutushi Mukherjee of the Economics Department attended the CBSE Capacity Building Programme in Economics at Apeejay School, Sector II, Salt Lake City, Kolkata 700 091, on Friday, June 28, 2019 and Saturday, June 29, 2019. The Resource Persons, Mr. Sabyasachi Chattopadhyay and Mr. Niraj Kumar Jha discussed the teaching methodology of Economics using concept maps, making of lesson plans using an interdisciplinary approach, question paper setting using Bloom’s taxonomy and related topics. The programme began at 9:00 a.m. and continued till 5:00 p.m. on both the days.

Inter-school Competition 29/06/2019

Chessmate – the Inter-school Chess Championship under the aegis of M.P. Birla Smarak Kosh was held on Friday, June 28, 2019 and Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the School Library. This Inter-school Championship is held in association with the Alekhine Chess Club and is recognized by The West Bengal Chess Federation. The Championship was played in seven rounds under the Federation International De Echess (FIDE) rules in accordance with the Swiss League. There were 34 teams (28 Boys / Open) and 06 Girls teams from 30 schools. On Saturday, June 29, 2019, prizes were handed over to the winners in the presence of Shri K. Damani, Trustee, South Point Education Society, who was the Chief Guest at the programme. The results of the Championship is as follows:-

Prizes for scoring the highest marks in different subjects, in the Annual Examination 2018-2019 were handed over to the pupils of Classes VI to VIII in the School Auditorium, on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Inter-House Competition 19/06/2019

The Preliminary Round of the Inter-House Debate Competition for Classes XI & XII was held in the School premises on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. The topics for the debate were ‘The Noble Peace Prize is redundant in a world at war with itself’, for Morning Session and ‘The Study of History is no longer a necessity’ for Afternoon Session. Smt. Soumi Sengupta, Smt. Soma Majumder and Smt. Susmita Bhattacharya, judged the event.

Condolence 17/06/2019

A silence of two minutes was observed at 10:45 a.m. in the Morning Session and at 1:15 p.m. in the Afternoon Session on Monday, June 17, 2019 as a mark of respect in the memory of Late Sukumar Sarkar, Advisor Human Relations, who passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
