In the CAB U/15 Mayor’s Cup Cricket Tournament held at Delhi Public School (Joka) on Thursday, January 23, 2020, the South Point High School Team won the match against Delhi Public School (Joka). Man of the Match was awarded to Aditya Roy of Class VII A (A).
In the CAB U/15 Mayor’s Cup Cricket Tournament held at Delhi Public School (Howrah) on Sunday, January 26, 2020, the South Point High School Team won the match against Delhi Public School (Howrah) by 428 runs. Man of the Match was awarded to Sourya Chowdhury of Class VIII D (M).
Four pupils of Class XI attended I-Manthan, Innovative Ideas for a Safer Kolkata, organized by Kolkata Police on Thursday, January 23, 2020. The pupils made an audio-visual presentation in that event.
Six pupils of Class XI participated in Meghnad Saha Vigyan Mela, organized by Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Jadavpur University and Indian Oil Corporation in collaboration with Pashchim Banga Vigyan Mancha, on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Triangular Park, Kolkata. About 30 schools participated in the fair that continued till 26th January 2020.
On Friday, January 24, 2020, pupils of Class VI took part in the programme “One Nation Reading Together” organized by Scholastic, the publishing house. The pupils read the books that they had brought from home, wrote down the names of their favourite books and authors on a graffiti sheet provided by ‘Scholastic’ and read aloud the Reading Pledge before they started the session.
Smt. Tulika Bindra attended a workshop titled “Orientation-cum-training programme on pre and post examination modalities” on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Apeejay School, Salt Lake. The programme was organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The Biennial Exhibition was inaugurated by Sri Wasim Kapoor, the noted painter, on Thursday, January 16, 2020 and continued till Saturday, January 18, 2020. Pupils of all Classes took part in demonstrating their creativity across different subjects through posters, models and art-works.
The highlights of the Exhibition were paintings, models and craft work presented by pupils of Classes VI to XII in addition to subject based projects.
The main attraction of the Art and Craft Exhibition were the variety of handcrafted items such as wooden wall hanging and bookshelves, created from broken benches and other used pieces of furniture. Folders made of recycled material, key rings, table runners and colourful envelopes were the other attractive items on display. Painted umbrellas and madhubani painting on dupattas added colour and variety. Canvas bags andbackpacks, cushion covers and wooden plates were the other creative exhibits. Fountains made of recycled materials were aesthetically presented too.
‘Water water everywhere….drop by drop we paint’ was the theme of the exhibition this year for the English department. They tried to portray how water has become the life force of many a literary output in English. They followed the journey of water as it touched and enriched the poetic sensibilities and the philosophical musings of some of the finest poets and litterateurs across the globe.
The Chemistry Exhibition focused on the greatest concern of today’s society – “recycling and waste management”. This journey traverses through the elementary world of chemistry celebrating 150th year of Periodic Table (2019) and experiences the fascinating world of chemistry – its colour and vigour.
Biology Department’s project focused on endangered species and the need for their conservation.
The works of great writers from Priyanath Mukhopadhyay, Panchkari De, Hemendra Kumar Roy to Satyajit Ray, Byomkesh Bakshi, Syed Mustafa Siraj and others were showcased by the Bengali department in order to uphold the popularity of detective fiction.
The department of Physics had diverse themes ranging from demonstrations of sustained irrigation system, magnetic levitation, demonstration of optical experiments, launchers, miniature working models of some daily use household devises, astronomy etc.
The History Project depicted the horrors of war through ages with special emphasis on the world between the two World Wars. The Project had also focused on the peace efforts both institutional and philosophicalthat followed the wars. The objective was to spread the message of brotherhood and tolerance.
The topic chosen by the Hindi department was ‘Water’. Thus, the project not only had literary importance, but also it sensitized everyone to the importance of water.
The topic for the Political Science exhibition was Globalization. The students have tried to portray the various aspects, benefits and consequences of Globalization.
In Legal Studies the Consumer Protection Acts and working of the consumer courts were highlighted.
The Sociology Project highlighted markets which are social institutions that are constructed in culturally specific ways. For example, markets are often controlled or organised by particular social groups or classes, and have specific connections to other institutions, social processes and structures.
The topic of the Geography department was ‘Diverse Features of our country (India). Its main purpose was to highlight the diverse geography of India. The idea that India has become stronger by welcoming various cultural, social and ethnic elements was reflected in the models, charts and artefacts.
Mathematics department highlighted the use of Mathematics in Architecture and mainly focused on Ancient Indian, Greek, Islamic, European, Mayan as well as Modern Architectures.
The Psychology department highlighted Mental Health issues faced by students. The Computer section demonstrated various applications of audio-processing of Computer.
To add another quotient to the already animated atmosphere, there was a mixed bag of on-stage events showcasing the various co-curricular activities that pupils of the school are being trained in.
The Annual Staff Picnic of the School was held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Hasir Aloy, Pulakdar Bagan Bari, Nodakhali, Bhakraghat, Dist. 24-Parganas (South).
Adrija Chakraborty – VII B (M), Adrija Ghorai – VII B (M), Sudeshna Baidya – VII C (A), Urjani Roy – VII F (A), Ahana Biswas – VIII C (M) and Srijani Pal Chowdhury – VIII H (A) participated in the Athletic Meet organized by Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School for their Centenary Celebration (1920-2020) held at Gitanjali Stadium on Thursday, January 09, 2020. Srijani Pal Chowdhury – VIII H (A) won the third position in 100 Mtrs. Flat Race.

Practical examinations of the AISSCE-2020 began on Friday, January 10, 2020.
16 pupils of Class XI participated in the 4th Regional Science & Technology Congress at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal, on Monday, December 23, 2019. The pupils displayed four innovative projects, prepared under the mentorship of Mr. Subhratanu Sarkar, and won the fourth award as a team.
Swarnadeep Saha of Transition E (Morning) passed away on January 5, 2020. A two-minute silence was observed at 10.30 am on January 10, 2020 to pay respect to the departed soul of this adorable child.
Mohona Paul of Class III E (Morning), a budding Table Tennis player, participated in the Inter District Table Tennis Championship, 2020, under the auspices of Dakshin Kolkata District Table Tennis Association, held at Sahid Smriti Sangha, Dhakuria, Kolkata on January 11 & 12, 2020. She secured the 3rd position in both Sub Junior Girls’ Singles event and Cadet Girls’ Singles event. Mohona received certificates and medals for both the events.
Ryan Roy Das of Class III F (Morning) has received a Bronze medal and a Certificate of Appreciation for winning the 2nd Round (State Level) of SIP Arithmetic Genius All India Inter School Contest 2019, held on December 1, 2019.
Shreyon Sarkar of Class IV A (Morning) received the 1st Runner up Trophy for Advanced Level 2 in the Regional SIP Abacus, Brain Gym & Mental Arithmetic Competition held on July 7, 2019 at Kolkata. Shreyon has recently received the certificate for this.
The Intra-Class Cricket Finals were held on January 11, 2020 at Vivekananda Park. In the Class IV Finals, the Yellow Team won by 4 wickets. Arhan Roy of IV A (Morning) scored 15 runs and took 2 wickets. He was declared the Man of the Match. In the Class V Finals the Blue team won the match by 5 wickets. Subhradip Nandi of Class V B (Afternoon) took 2 wickets and was declared the Man of the Match. Both Arhan and Subhradip received individual trophies. The winning teams received the rolling trophies.
