Pupils of Class XI (Afternoon) attended a workshop conducted by the Indian Society of Heating Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Engineering (ISHRAE), Fire & Safety Association of India (FSAI) & Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) on November 03, 2017 in the School Auditorium. Mr. Prateek Dutta Roy, Ex-President, ISHRAE, spoke on Ozone Depletion and Global Warning.Dr. Nilangshu Basu, Technical Adviser of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, gave a presentation on Rain Water Harvesting. Ms. Koyeli Dutt, National Treasurer of FSAI and Mr. Shekhar Dey, Consultant of FSAI spoke on fire safety measures. A live demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers was also given.
Smt. Sumedha Das and Smt. Sudaata Ray attended a workshop on “Effective Teaching of English and Motivation”, organized by Ratna Sagar Pvt. Ltd. on November 04, 2017 at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum. The resource person was Smt. Leena Kapoor.
M. P. Birla Foundation H. S. School hosted their inter school festival, Vibgyor on November 3, 2017. Pointers of Classes III to V participated in Bengali Elocution, Chess and Vegetable Printing. A team of four children, Saptashwa Ghosh (V C Morning), Soutrik Ghosh (IV G Afternoon), Aneesha Ghosh (IV G Afternoon) and Badotroye Mondal (IV G Afternoon) received the 2nd prize for Bengali Elocution. The team received a trophy. In Chess, Aayush Bhattacherjee received the 1st prize, while Aarshiya Biswas received the 3rd prize. Aayush and Aarshiya were awarded individual trophies. Certificates for the children will be sent to school later.
Garden High School hosted Checkmate 2017, a chess competition on October 10, 2017. Pointers from Class V, Aayush Bhattacharjee (V D Morning), Aarshiya Biswas (V G Afternoon), Shounak Mazumder (V D Morning) and Meghsubhra Dam (V E Morning) became the First Runner Up while the Garden High Team became the Champions. Being the host school, they handed over the Championship Trophy to the South Point Team. The children also received individual trophies. Our little Chess Masters of Class V deserve special credit as they managed to beat even high school children of other schools to reach the finals.
An awareness programme on Child Sexual Abuse was held in school for the children of Class II on November 8, 2017. This was conducted by Young Indians, an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry, playing a proactive role in India’s development process, working in collaboration with CHILDLINE Indian Foundation. The programme aims at empowering our children with the knowledge of ‘Personal Safety’.
Magic shows were held in the school auditorium on November 10, 2017 for the children of Nursery I, Transition and Class II A to D (Morning & Afternoon). There were six shows – three in the morning and three in the afternoon. The children, accompanied by teachers, were taken for the shows, according to a schedule. The little ones enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Angikar Ghosal of XI CJ and Avinandan Bose of XII CA have received a sum of Rs.15,000/- each from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) towards the scholarship under the National Talent Search Scheme for the period from 01.04.2017 to 31.03.2018.
The School Table Tennis Team participated in the CBSE National Inter-school Table Tennis Championship held at Dr. K.N. Modi Global School, Modi Nagar, Ghaziabad from November 05 to 09, 2017.
Angikar Ghosal of XI CJ, Srijan Jana of XI CJ and Amlan Sanyal of XI CF participated in Times Inter-school Fest, organized by PACE at the Hyatt Regency on November 06, 2017. They were declared first Runner-up out of 40 participating schools. The team has received a cash prize worth Rs.5000/- from PACE, Kolkata. They have also received a cash prize worth Rs.15000/- from Times of India, a Trophy, Medals and Certificates.
