Arunima Banerjee of Class I F (Afternoon) participated in My Cool Q Spell–A–Thon Olympiads (English Language Vocabulary and Communicative Skills Competition) held at SIP Abacus, Elgin Road on December 14, 2019 and stood First. She received a trophy and a certificate.

Art & Craft Exhibition

The Art and Craft Exhibition, which is a biennial feature at South Point, was held in the school premises from January 16 to 18, 2020. Prior to this, in order to facilitate the arrangements for the exhibition, classes for Nursery I to Class I were suspended from January 13 to 15, 2020, Classes II & III were suspended on January 14 & 15, 2020 and Classes IV & V were suspended on January 15, 2020.

The renowned painter, Shri Wasim Kapoor was the Chief Guest for the Art and Craft Exhibition. On the day of the inauguration, some students of South Point School, as well as, South Point High School, sang the opening song followed by the school song. This was followed by the welcome address by Smt Rupa Sanyal Bhattacharjee, Principal, South Point High School. Thereafter, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering, lit the ceremonial lamp, cut the ribbon and inaugurated the exhibition.

Numerous art and craft exhibits were on display. The exhibition showcased the creative potential of the budding artists of the school, ranging from Nursery I to Class XII. There were drawings in poster colour, acrylic colour, water colour and pastel colour. There were craft items like terracotta plates and vases, wall hangings, lamp shades, plant holders, masks, pencil holders, photo frames, key rings and dolls to name a few. The exhibition included more than three thousand paintings. The innovative craftsmanship, intricate designing and the novel creative ideas in art work enthralled one and all. Many of the art and craft items on display were made out of recycled waste material.

About one hundred and twenty five pupils of Classes II to V, under the guidance of Art Teachers, made various articles by rolling newspaper and coloured chart paper, created murals on mount board using the art of quilling, painted and decorated earthen vases with jute ropes and other embellishments at art workshops held in the months of November and December 2019. At these workshops they were also engaged in block printing on pastel paper and cloth using cut vegetables as stencils. They were also involved in collage-making on mount board. All art work created in the workshops were on display.

The Nursery Department was all set to charm the visitors with a radiant display of colourful blossoms, bees, butterflies and birds, magical castles, pretty princesses and a plethora of Disney characters as ‘Garden’ and ‘Disneyland’ were the themes they worked on. Students of Classes I to V had also worked on theme projects. The topics were:

The rooms displaying these projects created a green corridor for the visitors as the aim was to create awareness regarding the urgent need to save our environment and our planet. Colourful charts and models were exhibited and some students were selected as live models and demonstrators. Drawings by the students of the KMCP School, Hazra Road, adopted by South Point and of Sandipan, the free evening school run by South Point Foundation were exhibited. A very special attraction was the corner where costume jewellery made by the children of Sandipan were on display and for sale. On January 17, 2020 children of the KMCP School and of Sandipan came to see the exhibition.

Children of the Co-Curricular Activity Department staged various performances in the courtyard; this added to the festive ambience of the occasion.

The exhibition was open to visitors from 12 noon to 5.30 pm on all three days. Over five thousand visitors came to see the exhibition.

Class V

Dear Parents/Guardian,

As you are aware, pupils of Class V are already pursuing a Co-curricular Activity (CCA) as part of the CBSE curriculum.

In addition to the existing co-curricular activities, South Point High School is also offering Karate. In case you wish to opt for Karate for your ward instead of the existing activity, kindly fill in the form given below and submit it to the class teacher by February 3, 2020.

Please note that no other change in CCA classes will be possible.

All students going for the picnic to Ibiza on January 27, 2020 are to report to school by 7.30 a.m. They should be in school uniform and must carry a water bottle, a napkin, a cap and a disposable bag. The buses are expected to be back by 3.45 p.m.

Participation

16 pupils of Class XI participated in the 4th Regional Science & Technology Congress at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal, on Monday, December 23, 2019. The pupils displayed four innovative projects, prepared under the mentorship of Mr. Subhratanu Sarkar, and won the fourth award as a team.
