Social Service

On Thursday, February 09, 2023, pupils of Nature Club planted seeds in the School ground which they had received as gift from ‘Pathchala’ an organisation, who deals with underprivileged children.

Examination

Admit Card for pupils appearing in AISSE-2023 & AISSCE-2023 was distributed on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Excursion

A Bird Watching Excursion was held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 for the Nature Club and Photography Club members at Rabindra Sarovar with the assistance of Bird Watchers’ Society, Kolkata.

Saraswati Puja

This year Saraswati Puja and Republic Day shared the same date. A brief programme was put up by the pupils at South Point School. The programme began with a Saraswati Vandana set on raag hanswadhwani followed by rendition of a patriotic poem. A folk song was presented by the CCA folk singers’ group as well as a dance to welcome basant or the season of spring.

Vaccination Camp

A Camp in association with the Health Department, Government of West Bengal and Kolkata Municipal Corporation for Measles & Rubella Vaccination for the pupils of Classes VI to IX was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 and Friday, January 27, 2023 at the School premises.

Social Service

Pathchala, a school for underprivileged children gifted seeds to our Interact Club members on Friday, January 27, 2023 as a mark of gratitude for the support provided to them in the form of new clothes during Durga Puja and stationary items during Annual Fest Udaan & Vrrikshya 2022.

Achievement

South Point High School received the ‘Best School Award’ for the year 2022 in the Senior Talent Search Test 2022. The award was presented in the annual award ceremony of Jagadish Bose National science Talent Search on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Derozio Hall, Presidency University, Kolkata.

Refresher Training

“Refresher Training for handling of chemicals and hazards involved and familirisation of MSDS” for the Laboratory Demonstrators and other Laboratory Staff members was held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The training was conducted by Dr. Neelam Banerjee.

Inter-house Competition

Inter-house Competitions for Classes IX and XI were held from Monday, January 30, 2023 to Thursday, February 02, 2023 on Debate and Instrumental Music.

Participation

Sri Jaidev Ghosh, Smt. Tulika Bindra, Smt. Paramita Sarkar, Smt. Brita Sarkar and Smt. Shatarupa Sen, attended the 2nd CII Education East Summit-II, held at Park Hotel, Kolkata on Friday, February 03, 2023 and Saturday, February 04, 2023.

Smt. Soumi Sengupta attended a workshop on NEP-2020 on Saturday, February 04, 2023 at Hariyana Vidya Mandir. The workshop aimed at familiarising the new education policy and its various aspects.

Achievement

Edugraphs Colleges 18/18 Award Ceremony organized by The Telegraph was held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the G.D. Birla Sabhaghar. Aditya Roy of Class X A (A) was adjudged the best sports person under this award. Aditya played for Bengal U/17 Cricket Team as a Captain and scored one century in the Vijoy Merchant Trophy, organized by BCCI. He is the Captain of South Point High School Cricket Team.

44 pupils and 05 teachers were sent to Bengaluru for an educational trip, with academic support from Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA). The pupils visited Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and other industries involved in making of PriyamvadaSat, our own Nano Satellite. The team left on Monday, January 16, 2023 and returned on Friday, January 20, 2023.

• On Day-1, a seminar was organised by ITCA where a talk was given on satellites and other projects undertaken by ISRO. Insight was also given on the activities of other countries on satellites built by students.

• On Day-2, the team visited URSC (ISRO). It the museum showcasing miniature   replicas of satellites launched by ISRO. They also watched a video on the launch of Chandrayaan-2.  

• On Day-3, the team visited Micropack Industry, a manufacturer of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) where different stages of processing were shown and explained followed by a visit to the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum (VITM).

• On Day-4, the assembling of electronic circuits at Newtech Industry was witnessed by the team.

The interactions with scientists and engineers of ISRO and ITCA were educative yet enjoyable for the students.

Participation

St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association organised the XXIX Chapter of Fr. Joris Memorial Nihil Ultra National Debate on Saturday, January 21, 2023 on “The House believes that we are witnessing Euthanasia of Bollywood”. Fourteen pupils from Classes IX and XI of the School accompanied by their teachers went to listen to the debate held at St. Xavier’s College ground.

Pupils of Class XI visited Ashutosh Mukherjee Birth Centenary Hall in Indian Museum on Sunday, January 22, 2023 to attend seminars on the birth anniversaries of Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav of the Government of India. The event aimed at integrating and rejuvenating the youth of Bengal in imbibing the ideals of Swamiji and Netaji.
