Intra-Class Cricket Finals

The Intra-Class Cricket Finals were held on January 12, 2019 at Vivekananda Park. In the Class IV Finals, the Blue Team won by 21 runs. Rit Debanshi of Class IV G (Afternoon) scored 28 runs off 20 balls and was declared the Man of the Match. In the Class V Finals, the Yellow Team won the match by 7 wickets. Prithwish Santra of Class V E (Morning) scored 40 runs off 35 balls and was declared the Man of the Match. Both Rit and Prithwish received individual trophies. The winning teams also received the rolling trophies.

Death Anniversary of Founder Rector

The death anniversary of our Founder Rector, the Late Satikanta Guha, was observed on January 8, 2019. A photograph of the legendary educationist was placed at the school reception and decorated with flowers. Members of staff and student representatives offered floral tributes as a mark of respect.

Annual Staff Picnic

The Annual Staff Picnic of the School was held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Shiv Shakti Garden, Vill: Ramdevpur, P.O. Khagramuri, P.S. Bishnupur, Dist. 24-Parganas (South).

Participation

Pupils from Classes VII, VIII & IX participated in a Prabhat Pheri, organized by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Ward No.68 on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday on January 12, 2019.

Social Service

Social Service Projects were undertaken by the pupils of Classes IX & XI on Tuesday, January 08, 2019 on the death anniversary of the Founder Rector, Late Satikanta Guha. Three groups of pupils and teachers visited the following organisations:-

Navanir – a home for the aged, where the pupils served lunch to 100 inmates. They also had the privilege of interacting with them and entertaining them by singing songs.

Anandaghar – a home in Sonarpur for the orphans who suffer from AIDS. The pupils handed over packs of health drinks, body lotions, soap bars, hair oil, etc. for the use of the inmates there.

Prateek Sevabratee – a NGO which deals with the overall development of the slum children in the Dhakuria area. Our pupils handed over blackboards, chalk boxes, dusters, exercise copies, drawing copies, pens pencils erasers, sharpeners and packets of biscuit to the students for their use.

Competitions

Mitrabha Guha won the individual championship and South Point won the Best School Trophy in the Telegraph Inter-school Chess Championship held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Alekhine Chess Club, Kolkata. The participants were:-

Athletic Meet 2018

Athletic Meet 2018 was held on December 22, 2018 at the Gitanjali Stadium. About nine hundred children from Nursery I to Class V participated in this glorious biennial event. The mega event began with the school choir singing the Opening Song, followed by the School Song. The Principal, Ms D. K. Chadda delivered the Welcome Address. After the lighting of the Ceremonial Torch by the Chief Guest, Mr Jag Mohan, IPS, Director General, Department of Fire & Emergency Services, Government of West Bengal, the Head Girl and the Captain of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar House encircled the ground holding the flaming torch aloft while the school choir sang the Sports Song. The Flag Hoisting was followed by a March Past in which the pupils participating in various athletic events were led by the Standard Bearer. The Bulbuls & Cubs and the children of Sandipan also participated in the March Past. The Chief Guest declared the Athletic Meet open after delivering his address. The Oath-taking Ceremony followed and all participants took a vow to participate in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

The two Drill Displays seemed to have brought a riot of colours on the field. The participants of the Junior Drill Display belonged to Nursery II, Transition and Class I, while the Senior Drill Display comprised pupils of Classes III – V. The children of Class II put up a beautiful Yoga Display. The young Karate exponents showed their skills in the Karate Display.

An array of exciting track events, innovatively conceptualised to suit different age groups, followed. Apart from the Flat Races, there were interesting races like ‘Noah’s Ark’, ‘Little Mermaids’, ‘Cowboys’, ‘It’s my Choice’, ‘India hits Gold’, ‘Order Online’, ‘Mumbai Dabbawalas’, ‘Off to the Beach’, ‘Save Water’, ‘Crossing all Hurdles’, ‘Mickey’s Birthday’, ‘Abracadabra’, etc.

The races for the Pointers ended with the Inter-House Relay. Thereafter, there were races for the Sandipan children, for members of staff and for the guardians. The Championship Trophy was jointly lifted by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar House and Rabindranath Tagore House while the Runner-Up Trophy was lifted by Sister Nivedita House. The day ended with the lowering of the School Flag and the National Anthem.
