Ullas

November 18, 2017 was a fun filled day at South Point School as it was the first day of the two-day celebration of Ullas, the annual inter-school festival. About six hundred and fifty children from eighteen premier schools of Kolkata in the age group of 7-10 years participated in this joyous festival. Children from Sandipan also took part in two events. Mr K Damani, Trustee, South Point Education Society lit the ceremonial lamp and declared the fest open. Some events like Toon-time (drawing a cartoon), Patachitra (painting on earthen plates), Ad-It (advertisement making), Ta-Dhin-Ta (dances to Hindi/Bengal songs on seasons), Spell Bee (quiz on English Spelling & vocabulary) and Geetmala (Antakshari on Hindi Film Songs), along with the prelims of Kwizwiz were held in the school premises. The judges on the first day were Ms Barsha Bagchi, Ms Stuti Laha, Ms Rupamanjari Mitra, Ms Sumi Chaudhury, Ms Debamitra Sengupta and Mr Tarit Sarkar, all renowned personalities from different walks of life.

Magic shows

Magic shows were held in the school auditorium on November 13, 2017 for the children of Nursery II, Class I and Class II E, F & G (Morning & Afternoon). There were six shows – three in the morning and three in the afternoon. The children, as well as teachers having class with them watched the magic show according to a schedule.

Participation

Pupils of Class VI participated in ‘One Nation Reading Together-2017’, an event organized by Scholastic on November 24, 2017 in the School premises where each pupil read a book of his/her choice in their language period and also wrote a line or two on reading in a Graffiti Wall Poster.

Principal’s Address

The Principal addressed about 130 pupils of Class XII (Science) who failed to reach the required standard in the Half-yearly Examination, 2017-2018. One parent of each pupil was also present at the address which was held in the School Auditorium on November 23, 2017.

Olympiad

Around 1070 pupils of Classes VI to XII participated in the Science Olympiad held on November 23, 2017 in the School premises.

Table Tennis Championship

Parijat Dwary of Class V E (Morning) has been doing very well in the field of table tennis. He had participated in the Friend’s Staff (Stage I) Table Tennis Championship 2017 organised by Friend’s Staff, Hindmotor, under the guidance of Hooghly District Table Tennis Association & Bengal Table Tennis Association, on November 11 & 12, 2017. He became the 1st Runner Up in the Cadet Boys (Under 12) singles event. He received cash prize worth Rs.250/-. Parijat also participated in the All Bengal Bhowanipur Bayam Sangha Table Tennis Championship (Stage I) 2017 held at Bhowanipur Bayam Sangha from November 25 to 27, 2017. He became the winner in the Cadet Boys singles event (Under 12). He received a certificate and a medal.

OHSAS

An Internal Audit of the School was conducted by the internal audit team of South Point School. The team during their day long visit in the School, pointed out various areas where improvement was required for sustained health and safety of the occupants of the building.

National Science Olympiad Examination

On November 23, 2017 eight hundred and three students from Classes III, IV & V appeared for the National Science Olympiad. The examination was held in the school premises. Classes for the pupils of Nursery I & Nursery II remained suspended that day in order to provide rooms for the examination. The children of the Afternoon session who appeared for the examination came early and attended their classes afterwards. The examinees of the Morning session stayed back after their classes to appear for the examination.

Ullas

The second day of Ullas, our inter-school festival was held on November 20, 2017 at G. D. Birla Sabhagar. Shri Bickram Ghosh, the renowned percussionist was the Chief Guest. The day started off with Kwizwiz (quiz). Mr Ryan Shaw was the Quiz Master. Other events of the day were Bohurupee (fancy dress in a pair), Do-Re-Mi (Western vocal music) and Prerna (dances to Hindi/Bengali inspirational songs). Mr Ayan Bhattacharjee, Mr Suprovo Tagore,   Ms Michelle Manuel, Mr Nitin Mani, Mr Kohinoor Sen Barat & Mr Suvasish Dutta, all eminent personalities, were the judges. South Point School bagged the maximum number of points and emerged the Champions, but being the host school, passed on the trophy to the First Runner Up – Mahadevi Birla World Academy. Birla High School (Junior Section) being the next in line, lifted the Runner Up Trophy. Individual trophies were also given to the children who won the first, second and third positions in each event held on that day.
